•Tribal Fusion Bellydance
Tribal Fusion is an exciting style of modern Bellydance which blends traditional bellydance with the aesthetic of Tribal Style bellydance, a form that developed in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1960’s and is still evolving today. It blends traditional Egyptian and American belly dance with influences from Indian dance, Flamenco, North African, Turkish Rom ("Gypsy"), Modern Dance, and Hip Hop, creating a new style for the 21st century. It includes solo dancing that expresses individual musical interpretation, improvised and choreographed group dances, as well as prop dances including sword, veil, and candles.
• Classic Bellydance
Classic Bellydance is a modern interpretive presentation of vintage bellydance of the 20th century, both real and imagined. Sometimes referred to as Classic American Cabaret, this style utilizes the traditional five-part routine and blends Egyptian, Turkish, and Lebanese forms of bellydance with American performance sensibilities. Egyptian style routines can also be presented.
• “Gypsy” style Bellydance
Gypsy style combines Classic and Tribal styles of bellydance in a joyful interpretive presentation inspired by the Romany Trail. While not representing authentic Romany dance, this style embraces the character of Romany dances of many regions, including India, Egypt, Turkey, and the Balkans.
Performance FAQ
Our dancers have had many years of dance training to be able to present these styles of belly dance. The agency dancers have had a minimum of two years of bellydance training, and often other dance training including ballet, modern dance, and other ethnic dance forms. They take a minimum of one dance class a week, and travel to other cities to take workshops from well-known bellydance and ethnic dance instructors.
Our presentations are entertaining and engaging, not embarrassing, based on good dance technique and showmanship.
The dancers are trained in choreographed dance numbers and also the art of improvisation. The sets are tailored to the needs of your specific event, and then rehearsed. The dancers polish their performance so that they are able to engage the audience with personality and energy.
Tribal Bellydance and "Gypsy" style costumes are beautiful and exotic, with ancient and modern Eastern and Western influences. Each dancer constructs her own costume with elements imported from Egypt, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Morocco, and Jordan, and combines them with handcrafted costume garments. The dancers' hairpieces are also handcrafted. The jewelry is also imported from the above countries.
Classic Bellydance costumes are glamourous and elegant, decorated with coins, sequins, jewels, rhinestones, or Swarovski crystals. These costumes are hand made or imported from Egypt and Turkey, and are in the classic two-piece bedlah style or the elegant gown style.
Each dancer takes the time to apply quality makeup and accessories to ensure a complete presentation.
Shows may include dancing with props such as swords, veils, canes, finger cymbals, clay pots, candles, or fire.
*Swords range in size, and are usually crafted in India for use in bellydance presentations. These are used in a dance showing the dancer's balance and control, with the sword balanced on the head!
*Veils are usually imported Chinese silk or a silk equivalent, and swirled around the dancer to create a magical effect.
*Canes are used for a traditional Egyptian dance with a sassy attitude!
*Finger cymbals are used in some dances for a traditional sound. Called zills or sagat, they are made out of brass and played rhythmically while dancing.
*Clay Pots are handcrafted by each dancer, and are balanced on the head in a dance based on images of village women from Egypt, Morocco, and Rajasthan.
*Candles are balanced on a tray or carried in the hands for a mesmerizing effect.
*Fire props come in many styles, including finger wicks, fans, swords, and belt wicks. The wicks are made out of a Kevlar blend, and the fuel is Coleman white gas. The addition of this element creates an exciting performance beyond dance! Spotters are required for a fire show, as well as adequate performance space and ventilation. Outdoors is preferable.
